Major/Minor Fair
Every fall, Lock and Chain partners with the College of Arts and Sciences to put on the Major/Minor Fair. The College of Arts and Sciences organizes all of the academic departments to get members of their faculty and staff to come to the fair. They are there to answer questions, provide insight, hand out informational brochures, or even just to have a conversation with students that are considering possible major(s). Lock and Chain carries out the publicity necessary to inform the sophomore class about this great opportunity for them to attend. Without the cooperation present between the College of Arts & Sciences and Lock & Chain this event would not be possible.
During the fair, representatives from almost every academic department in the College of Arts & Sciences set up tables in the Mallinckrodt Food Court. There are also representatives from the Olin Business School, the School of Engineering, the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts. They bring along a multitude of brochures and handouts, and experts from each department are available to answer questions. With all of this information available, freshman and sophomores can browse through the various tables, ask representatives from different departments anything they may want to know about a field of study, find out the requirements for any major or minor that they might be considering, and can walk away with no questions left unanswered.
Members of Lock & Chain are standing by all day at the fair to guide students through the maze of tables and to offer any other guidance they can. They are also waiting with stacks of major and minor declaration forms. This is one of the most important aspects of the Major/Minor Fair. Sophomores can declare their major right there on the spot, putting themselves far ahead of the February 15 deadline. Instead of having to trek back and forth across campus to get the appropriate signatures on the forms, they can get everything they need and submit the forms right at the fair, with Lock & Chain members helping them along the way.
